RIM Sells 50,000 Playbook Units On Opening Day
RIM on it’s first day sold an estimated 50,000 Playbook units according to various media reports. For a brand new and still to be fully unveiled tablet technology, these are impressive numbers. Approximately half of these units were sold via pre-orders and the other at retail outlets including Staples, Office Depot, and others. Do you have a Playbook? Is The Amazon Storage Cloud Safe?
Overnight numerous websites including Foursquare and others came crashing to the ground as their storage partner, Amazon, had their cloud burst and data crashed on the internet. Many upstarts today use the Amazon cloud solution to host backend transactions and handle the inner workings of their sites. But it is the cloud, and things can happen, and they did. In the early days of the internet, server rooms were filled with boxes as websites became more and more optimized for traffic. Now, you can start a site, grab a cloud solution, and not have a need for robust local data storage and solutions. Is this the safe way to go?
Is Apple Forming A Cloud Music Service? Yes
According to an exclusive report by Reuters, it looks like Apple has finally put together a cloud music storage solution, and at that has beaten Google to the punch. The Apple iTunes cloud storage story has floated around the media for a while and the Apple data storage facility in North Carolina has long been rumored destined for this purpose. Per a Reuters report, the final stages of prep are being made and it should launch soon.
Square Credit Card Reader Available At Apple Stores
The ability for an independent contractor or a self employed individual to run credit cards on their mobile device has been a breakthrough in modern technology. Square which is a San Francisco based company, now has their Square Credit Card Reader available at Apple retail stores nationwide. It runs $9.99 and features a $10 credit when you sign up for service. All that’s required is to download their Apple or Android application and setup an account on Square.com. A 2.75% rate is taken out of every transaction and the proceeds are deposited into your bank account.

The Blackberry Playbook Launches
Blackberry this week has launched the Playbook, which is it’s first tablet to users across the US. The Playbook features a unique operating system which isn’t Android and isn’t iOS. The Playbook is designed to team up with your Blackberry in tandem and early reviews from the New York Times and WSJ are somewhat positive. Lack of an email application and other main needs weren’t initially launched on the Playbook. The Playbook is available in a Wi-Fi version and features 16GB of internal storage.

Amazon Launches Library Support For The Kindle
Amazon today announced the ability for the Amazon Kindle to be used at Library’s in the fall. Amazon is working with hundreds of library’s across the country to allow for the rentals of Kindle books. The reader will be able to add notes and highlights to the book and if the reader purchases the book in the future, they’ll be able to regain those notes.
