The Nokia N81: Review + BH604 Bonus
The N81 by Nokia isn’t the newest phone on the block, but one of the more stable phones we’ve seen from Nokia. It features a small candy bar type design along with a slide out keyboard for text use. The display is incredibly sharp at 2.4″ and 8GB of internal memory. The N81 features the S60 operating system which has more flexibility and features than other operating systems and built in VOIP capabilities. The N81 has complete USB and Bluetooth abilities, can play back videos on a wide platform of codecs, and you can load your music on it to your heart’s delight. A 3.5″ plug enables you to use regular earphones vs having a special dedicated adapter.
It’s a great phone and comes unlocked from Nokia so it’s able to be used on a wide variety of GSM networks. We tested it on T-Mobile here in Orange County and found the data speed on par with other EDGE phones, the ability to upload photos to a wide variety of services, and call quality being above average. No phone has excellent call quality so we’ve given up looking for that perfect phone…
As a bonus, the folks over at Nokia included a pair of Nokia BH604 Bluetooth headphones. These were some of the best sounding full headphone Bluetooth headphones we’ve heard. You can use them with your N81 or similar Bluetooth enabled phone, your PC/MAC, or other devices. Great sound, a good feel, and best of all features the ability to make and take calls with your phone. Overall a solid pair of headphones from Nokia. Thanks to Womworld for including those.
Overall we enjoyed the N81 and the BH604. Both show solid build qualities and design and most importantly feature great use.
